london based label ism serves up a massive ep with three tracks from russian disco producer volta cab, all of which offer some seriously downtempo grooves. >play on< and >magic in your eyes< nail the classic sub 110bpm disco sound with its lush live instrumentation. however its the shining 80s feel of >hes a bad mutha< that is the most impressive, melding a sleazy vocal with a heart-rending combination of synths and horns. label bosses yam who? offer two remixes, with their version of >play on< a cosmic uptempo version of the original, with an ascending synth bass that elevates the original vocal to new heights. their remix of >hes a bad mutha< adds a similar amount of extra dancefloor kick, removing the originals yearning melody for something a little more forceful.

tommy walker 3 has been hiding for a while now, after releasing a slew of material in 2008 (including a release on the sadly defunct dissident). now hes back with >dance music clubbing<, and with a name like this youd probably expect this ep to either be a bit off the wall, or unintentionally awful. we are glad to say it fits into the former category, offering an ep of colourful elastic space disco mixed with a more classic vibe. opener >disconnected< sets the tone with its 80s, verging on hair metal guitar riffs. >mwj1< impresses with its almost seinfeld-esque slap bass, and synth piano stabs while >errational< is characterised by its wonky synth melody and spaced-out laser gurgles. finally >v brains< melds driving live bass with huge slabs of cosmic squelch. if you like your disco fierce, this will definitely be worth a look

supported by tornado wallace (delusions of grandeur), pete herbert (reverso 68/dance disorder)... when jay shepheard launched retrofit in early 2010, deep house with a splash of disco was on the menu. six releases later and the quality of music hasnt faltered once. jays own work has always been the main focus on all five releases but for retrofit 6, rudys midnight machine, (who is in fact robin lee of faze action) takes to the stage alongside an appearance from shepheard (as ee_ef_ex) on remixing duties. >ecstatic love glow< kicks off the ep, diving head first into the disco and synth heavy realm that we expect from retrofit (and, for that matter, from mr lee), whose house outputs with faze action as far back as 97 speak for themselves. the intro of tip tapping hats and congas leads into a penetrating bass guitar, a riff that goes on to be cleverly mirrored by keyboards and later, by what sounds like a scratchy lakland guitar. wooden hats, sirens and a plethora of cosmic elements boogie their way around until the tracks dominant synth parades in and takes over the arrangement, striking a dramatic and smug pose at the close of each stab. the second track of >east side good living< sticks with its predecessors groove, cosmic sirens, electronic whistles and metallic drum taps yet again highlighting rudys modern disco sound

the all city harmony show rolls into ornate towers with the a masdelux session ep. kicking proceedings off >i see< is endowed with the kind of boompty bass that immediately brings to mind julio bashmore, complemented by gently cooing vocals and synths that drop in and out of the mix sweetly. the mid section breakdown is divine! moodymanc takes a good long hard look in the mirror with his deep reflection mix of >i see<, stripping back the original to create a genuine late night burner - exactly the kind of quality weve come to expect from this producer. this shares the flips side with another original achs cut, namely >extra funk<, which shapes a broken beat around some killer boogie bass and cleverly arranged funk sample

hamiltons debut single on ram records is simply massive. having already released two huge 12 inches on frequency and the immense >soundboy<, a track released as part of andy cs nightlife 5, it comes as no surprise that brainstorm and echoes have already conquered dance floors worldwide and is a firm favourite in the sets of andy c, chase & status, hype, bailey, sub focus and fresh to name but a few. brainstorm leads in gently with rolling percussion, building up the suspense until the winding bass and scattered drum beats kick in to create a smasher that all will want hear again and again.

it took a while but we finally got this great remix ep together from catz n dogz escape from zoo album. tanner ross flexes his e-funk biceps and shows us that just a little bit goes a long way with huge bass and sparse vox. this remix goes against the grain the right way, showing restraint and power at the same time. the main man of detroit, carl craig also delivers a sparse and beautiful mix, 1st giving us a lesson in how to properly tweak the space echo and then bringing it back with classic strings and subs. both mixes are getting major support from all across the globe from sebo k to troy pierce to ewan pearson to martyn to l-vis 1990 to james zabiela - overall probably the best feedback we had in a while on a record to be honest.. all great for our kids at the detroit youth foundation where the mothership label donates 100% of profits! also, special thanks to matt colton at air studios, london for donating a mastering session for free to cut this record and support our school.

our japanese dear friend hidenobu ito is definitely overwhelming and it seems almost comically out of place. from alien hydraulics to percussive steel fractals he allows to take shape within the realm of impossibility. so, what follows next on numbolic records is a stunning lesson in subtle buildup of sound design. theres a feeling of constant movement and shaky energy that means his music never quite stands still. highly resonant and rapidly-panning drum hits act like flickering fluorescent lights. the result is a heavily abstracted layering and perhaps our most sonically release to date. every sound, no matter how tiny, is endlessly tweaked and picked apart. the 12 inch ep is rounded off with 2 prickly re-interpretations. dualism turns up the fog with a super-deep captivating and yet lovingly version. while ditch comes up with a characteristic throbbing dirty techno rework. another 4 smashing tracks by hidenobu ito are added digitally as well as two bonus remixes. kai provides a dance floor-approved version and the hungarian newcomer as we said made a cartoon spaceship to the moon. big pulsating bass kicks will drive you in that particular head-space, but before accidentally killing someone in love, we suggest go get this record instead and start dance! be numbolic!

here the 1920s and 30s samples arent just backed by a house beat, but given such a distorting twist the whole has become something else entirely. the ep is slower and darker than before with brooding bass and deeper production that adds a vital contemporary edge.

this time splendid lo-fi come up with a little and powerful v/a: rio padice is up to skies right now, nothing can be high enough to stretch out his hands and grab it. with vixen he has done his finest work and brings us deep and rough sounding analog and mature simplicity. a sound like a fox roaming thru the dark forest. a pure 909-sound meets a butter packed bassline. this is ment to be very classic stuff. a concept also steinwiese has arranged perfectly. a lusty and classy piece of very crackling music for the vinyl. on black bird a crispy bass and a strong chord are taking us on a ride and show the same forest from above. this one is definitely for the nighttime

district of corruption is proud to present a very unique collaboration between dilo and egon orange. dilo hails originally from buenos aires and is known for connecting the two worlds of rock and electronics. dilo is currently living in a perpetual summer, splitting his time between berlin and buenos aires. dilo is running his own imprint, igloo records, and has released on numerous other labels such as we are, minus, clink, unfoundsound, and einmaleins. egon orange made is production debut in 2009 on igloo. egon has also been refining his unique live show for several years. >take me home< is a tech-house gem. strong and repetitive percussion is set against dilos own fragile voice make this a perfect summer storm. we expect you will want to take this one home as the memory of a perfect night out. >röte< is the perfect flip. warm special pads pulse along with deeply hypnotic percussion and bass. ear candy is abundant but this is a no-frills journey. >röte< gently develops with lush analog keys and heavily processed vocal oddities.
